Trackback Failure

Track backs do not seem to be reflected in the template for indivual posts. This post declares 4 trackbacks but does not display them.

Weird, I must have screwed something up with the code. Do you want to look at the template and see if you can figure out what I did wrong?

Yeah, I see for one thing that the popup trackback link is still in the individual page template when it should be gone. It shows that all four pings are from the Blog Herald. This happens a lot. I think my MT server frequently times out before acknowledging an incoming ping. I usually just delete all but the earliest (or latest, if there was an edit that changed the snippet).

The trackbacks are supposd to show up in the Further comment section...

ok, i found some strange entangled tags in my template. i tried to sort it out now.

one thing that was confusing me was that i've set it up as comments, then trackbacks, then the comments form, which means i have to repeat the <MTEntryIfComments> tag a second time for the form and its <MTCommentsIfOpen> wrapper.

I'm rebuilding now, so we'll see if I got it right this time. I tried to use some rudimentary tag indenting to help keep the hierarchies straight.

OK, looks like that basically did the trick, though I need one more line break.

Posted by: xian at November 25, 2003 10:46 AM

but but i went to the managing section and now it has one trackback with 4 comments. did you mean comments or trackbacks?

What I saw was 4 comments and 4 trackbacks. Yea I'd love to have access to the templates.

Posted by: filchyboy at November 25, 2003 2:38 PM

It was four trackbacks. I deleted 3.

filch, i'll turn it on soon.

i'm happy to let everyone touch the templates, but let's be careful about version control. if you're ever planning to change something at the real site, tell everyone first over here so no one else loses their changes.

not that i expect us all to be changing the template willy-nilly.

I have no problem with taking Liz's lead. I only agreed that I'd like template control because I could have probably let you know what was wrong with the template before I made the post.

No worries from me.

Got it. I was going to ask what you were going to do with the templates.

That's cool and actually needed. Given the humungousness of this site we need more than 2 pairs of eyes on the system.
