Categories Redux

there's a really funny feature on the Onion about blogs. what would i put that under? blogosphere? miscellany?

Sure, we could have a Humor category. The test with categories is are you needlessly segregating the material if it could already be categorized in the existing set.

I'd probably put the onion link under "Weblog concepts" since "when mom finds out" (or something analogous) is one of the weblog concepts everyone stumbles upon eventually.

I use blogosphere more for the multiple-voice dialogues among bloggers and tools that look at blogs as a whole (like technorati), etc. These distinctions have gray areas, of course.

I wouldn't use the "Required Reading" category for it, though. That's for longer essay-type entries or links to canonical weblog articles out there elsewhere. That category automatically gets listed in the Essential Entries listing in the sidebar too.
