Tom Coates on the rightward tilt in the punditic blogosphere
Over at plasticbag.org, Tom wonders about the popularity of right-wing views among political bloggers, and offers a few theories:
[T]he sheer number and moral certainty of current right-wing webloggers is intimidating (occasionally terrifying). This in itself would not be a reason to avoid debate, except that (as is often the case with most organisations and affiliations of people) some of its more extreme members are not only vocal (as they should be), but are aggressive and quite prepared to demonise those that don't disagree with them. I know several people who talked about politics only to find themselves targetted by these people and who now avoid the whole debate.

Can the Democrats win again?
Harley Sorensen has some, on balance, very wise advice for the Democratic party in Dems Must Change To Win In '04 / View from the left:
To win in 2004, the Democrats must return to their roots, rather than continue their recent insipid balancing act, an act that has turned them into spineless, lukewarm Republicans.

My interview happening live now on the Well
Today we're starting the Inkwell interview with me about Dreamweaver Savvy and related topics. The Inkwell is a publicly-viewable conference at the Well usually featuring interviews with book authors.

Besides the software addressed in my book (Dreamweaver and Fireworks), we're planning to talk about related topics such as web design and development projects, information architecture, content management, site management, blogging, and so on.

If you are not a member of the Well, you can still submit questions for the interview via email. We'll have new material in the topic every day for the two weeks that the interview runs.

See you there.

Garden blogs
Can anyone recommend some good garden or gardening blogs? I have an ulterior motive for asking which I'll explain after I see what this search turns up.

Start at the beginning, proceed through the middle to the end, and then stop
Diane E. is ending her Letter from Gotham blog and plans to remove it from the Web (so the preceding link may not work).

I'm not sure why she wants to remove it, but her reasons for ending it are clear: she's finished. Like everything else, a blog can have a beginning, a middle, and an end.

She is not antiblogging, though as her "Fare Thee Well" post from November 14 makes clear:

Dear Unique Readers:

I have decided to stop blogging. I have also decided to remove the blog from the web, once I motivate myself to download my archives, which should be tonight. I'm a snap-decision-maker. Like the dancer I once was, I've decided to hang 'em up for good.

To those of my readers who have flirted with the idea of starting their own blog I'd recommend it heartily. Give it a go. Go until you reach the end. Then stop.

Best,
Diane

I'd laugh if I weren't crying
Tom Tomorrow describes three scenarios and asks you to guess which actually happened and which are outlandish satire. I should probably just link to the cartoon every Monday....

Video kill the bloggio star?
As a writer, I am ambivalent about mediablogging and the old vidphone idea mixed with a kind of public-access Wayne's World media future, but mobile blogging (moblogging?) — which seems to be the meme of the moment in metablogging circles — seems more appealing. Just as I've always liked carrying a notebook around to capture thoughts, overheard real-world dialogue, sketches, and so on, mobile blogging promised to feed my instant-gratification jones. Though I'm not sure I'll read my car's blog.

This morning's reverie sponsored by Reverse Cowgirl's i want my BlogTV post today, in which she muses:

it occured to me while reading Justin Hall's "From Weblog to Moblog" that it would be interesting to Wi-Fi live-blog the upcoming attempt to turn the Reverse Cowgirl's Blog into a cable-TV show from the field when we begin shooting the Lo-Fi "pre-pilot" in early December.

the ideal way to do this, of course, would be via Radio Userland video-blogging technology, something that, one would imagine, will be offered down the line, thereby converting this blogger from Roving Sexpert into Convergent Client.
